Spoiler warning!
This section contains plot details about the game.

The main character of Soul Sacrifice is a slave to a powerful sorcerer. The protagonist is going to be sacrificed, when a magical book appears to him/her. The book belonged to another sorcerer. Using the book, the protagonist can enter the sorcerer's memories and fight alongside other sorcerers as they defeat large beasts. The player enters the fights to gain enough experience and power to defeat the sorcerer.

Depending on the protagonist's choices three different Endings can be achieved.

Soul Sacrifice is an action role-playing game from the third-person perspective. The player is given the option to customize the protagonists name, gender, hair (as well as the color), face, skin color, voice, and costumes (referred to as Raiments  in the game) . The main objective of the game is to accept quests that put the player into an arena with one or more monsters to defeat. Using spells (which are limited by a set number of casts) that the player equips before entering, one can fight and defeat the boss. Upon defeating them, the boss can either be sacrificed or saved. Soul Sacrifice features two alignments, Life and Magic. Saving will increase the Life level, which increases defense, while sacrificing will increase the Magic level, which increases attack power. Saving enemies in the quests themselves will restore a small amount of HP, while sacrificing them will restore all your spells by one count. After the quest is over, certain spells are awarded based on the players performance, through a point system. The player can then upgrade these spells by combining multiple copies, or fuse different spells together to create new ones.
